Latin American television channels Claro Sports and Infobip have developed an AI-powered chatbot for sports fans in Mexico. Using Infobip technology, the chatbot provides real-time information to fans during sports events through Google’s RCS service.
Claro Sports is a Latin American television channel of Mexican origin owned by América Móvil, which bases its programming on sports. The chatbot was developed by Infobip using Google’s RCS technology and first deployed in the summer of 2024 during a summer sports event in Paris. The chatbot called “Paris is Yours” at the time, offers fans real-time access to results from various competitions, as well as receiving notifications about their favorite athletes’ performances and providing detailed information on key events. During this period of 11 days, Claro Sports viewers were able to interact with the chatbot, generating more than 34 thousand messages to receive information about athletes and different sporting events.
The AI-powered chatbot service is designed to optimize and streamline communication through RCS, employing natural language processing (NLP) to understand and appropriately respond to users, as well as handle complex queries and participate in relevant conversations. RCS messages are sent to users on their mobile network, while Google facilitates the delivery of rich and secure messages, with Infobip providing the necessary technology and chatbot for implementation. In addition to RCS, the chatbot is available on several other platforms, including Apple Business Chat, SMS, and Facebook Messenger, ensuring a consistent experience across all channels.
“We’re proud of our AI-powered chatbot that was developed by Infobip. With this service, we achieved a great service for our viewers, enabling sports fans to interact with the chatbot, and receiving real-time information about athletes and different sporting events,” said José Antonio Aboumrad, Director at Claro Sports.
“We’re delighted to work together with Claro Sports on this development. RCS is establishing itself in Mexico, and in many other countries in the world, as a key channel for customer engagement, combining the reliability of SMS with the advanced features of modern messaging apps. Integration with AI and chatbots is transforming customer conversational experiences. Major sporting events represent an excellent opportunity to demonstrate this potential,” said Dave Boddington, Group Product Manager at Infobip.
